Description

The GFSK90 is a small scale, low cost wireless ISM transceiver module. The low receive sensitivity (–118dBm) coupled with industry leading +20dBm output power ensures extended range and improved link performance. Can you imagine controlling your home with smart device technology? 

"Mobile accessibility" in general terms is the art of making products, and web driven applications more usable to people with disabilities. Considering the advent of smart devices in the 21st Century there is truly no reason why the embedded device revolution should not revolutionize the way we designers build our products. Just a few weeks ago I began to think about how living with limited mobility does preset daily challenges in performing the basic tasks you and I take for granted. For this reason I have designed and developed the Genie Master Cube to be Mobile accessible. What this means is those things which normally require a fairly high level of manual dexterity may be reduced to a simple push of a button or a voice actuated command. For instance consider an elderly person who has an advanced arthritis. This condition may make it practically impossible to rotate a switch mechanism. When using smart device accessibility technology, this task now becomes much more manageable via a simple press of a button or voice activated command.

 As smart device technology of the 21st century improves, we should be designing more embedded devices which make our lives more manageable. When I think of scalability and manageability of our homes using smart technology, I will not be satisfied personally until all appliances in my home are completely interactive and accessible via the World Wide Web. The Genie Master Controller is just the kind of evolutionary embedded device that can help make this dream a reality.

902-928 MHz Programmable Radio


GFSK90 915MHz ISM Radio module designed for Industrial, Scientific, Medical and Home automation communications. This low cost communication module supports frequency-hopping spread-spectrum (FHSS) and supports wireless remote control, automated meter reading (metering) and sensing applications.


The 915-MHz ISM Band (902-928 MHz) is assigned to Industrial, Scientific, and Medical research and development in the US. According to FCC Part 15 there are no restrictions to the application or the duty cycle and affords for higher EIRP wave transmissions. Given the lack restrictions combined with higher transmissions power this band has become very popular for unlicensed short range applications which now include highway toll center monitoring, automated meter reading (metering), weather data collection systems, Home Automation, and industrial sensing/monitoring applications.

The GFSK90 ISM Radio shown in the image above is our RS485 enabled version which supports master, slave device addressability and supports 2 Analog, 2 Digital IOs or 1 Analog and 1 Digital IO.   

FCC Section 15.249

FCC section 15.249 allows 50 mV/m of electrical field strength at 3 meters distance in the frequency band of 902-928 MHz. This corresponds to an EIRP of -1.23 dBm.

Home Automation Supervisory Control
Genie Switch Cube (Home Automation Device) enables the end user (consumer) addressable end point control of common household loads such as Lamps, Holiday lighting, as well as low level environmental control. Current capabilities include activation and deactivation of two 110VAC switchable loads up to 4 Amps max (2A / port). Features include addressable switching, temperature sensing (with Genie Master Controller), and supervisory control of common household illumination devices.

Additional features provided by Genie Master Controller WiFi enabled client interface is necessary to manage loads in real time utilizing RTC (Real Time Clock) and web browser based event scheduler. The Master controller also implements Cube management and control features which enable each control end point to transmit and receive status updates as well as serve real time notification services to an internet enabled monitoring and scheduling service. The basic service will be offered with all Genie Master Controllers and may then be expanded to include a feature rich subscription service.

The worlds smallest (22nm Dual Core) functional PC meet Edison. I am very glad to learn it supports Linux and has a built in TCP/IP Stack, Wifi and Bluetooth hardware. I can clearly see a completely new generation of monitoring devices or even a Star Trek communicator in our future. Would be a great device for transactional identification and processing mainly used as a personal security device.

ISM Radio Design

Been working on a new design concept for a new generation ISM control device. Did have the PCB's finally made and so I have to assemble this small device and finish the assembly language and C programming. I had to pretty much put further DCP and RTOS development on a temporary hold. Do have some great ideas and a pretty expansive control protocol now to help make wireless controller links more interactive.

After about 8 Hours of writing C and assembly I have successfully created a single driver that controls both Wi-Fi and 10 Base-T Mac layers . Performance tests revealed on the 10 BASE-T interface a TX FIFO speed of 3Mbps when using interrupts versus packet polling. Based on this hardware design I expect with a slightly different Ethernet Network controller (100 BASE-T IEEE 802.3) this driver with a few tweaks could achieve upwards of 10Mbps. This type of TCP performance is not bad for an embedded Web Server solution since most  embedded systems do not require that kind of FIFO performance. After investing some time and money in additional development tools I have developed a high performance embedded solution which requires only 8K of SRAM and 50K of FLASH memory to run a full featured TCP/IP stack which includes MDD, DHCP, TCP/IP, UDP,DNS, NBNS, HTTP2, SMTP, FTP, NTP and has an integrated RTCC. I neglected to mention the MDD File System and other peripherals run at 20MHz with speeds possible of up to 50MHz on the MDD/SD card peripheral.

RTOS Automation Control Solution


Been developing an RTOS based web automation solution to run on the PIC32MX3 M4K 32-Bit core with 5-Stage pipeline with built in DMA. Right now this state of the art control solution maintains a 2GB MDD file system and can run TCP/IP and UDP services via a 10-Base-T Ethernet controller or over a 2Mbps WiFi IEEE 802.11b Radio. Last TCP performance bench marks achieved was right at 768Kbps (TX FIFO) over the 2Mbps WiFi (IEEE 802.11b) Network Controller.

Ultrasonic Sonar URF 1000


Measurement and Proximity Detection 


The URF 1000 series ultrasonic sensing modules provide distance measurement capability to embedded microcontroller or SBC devices. The URF 1000 control module (DSM) implements both proximity and distance measurement in a single embedded device. The DSM is ICSP (in circuit serial) programmable andprovides separate TTL control and ICSP ports to ease in circuit debugging. The URF 1000 series detection devices can detect stationary objects up to 3 meters. Distance measurement is implemented via a host controller which triggers and receives a modulated TTL signal which can beused by a microcontroller to calculate distance via 40KHz ultrasonic bursts.

PICLinkRS232 controller module





The PICLinkRS232 controller module affords any microcontroller enthusiast an easy to construct mini-microcontroller module.  This embedded microcontroller is ICSP (in circuit serial) programmable and provides separate PORTA, PORTB, RS232 I/O ports as well as an integrated ICSP port to implement in circuit programming and debugging. On board host RS232 USART may be used to interface with a PC or any other serial communications devices like our 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or 915MHz wireless modules.

Basics of LES

LES-1.0 (version 1.0) is a miniaturized embedded framework written in C currently for PIC micro-controllers which supports basic input/output, memory and RS232 asynchronous communications.  Because of its small foot print the entire system can fit into 1K (1024 Bytes) of program memory. In addition LES greatly simplifies bit level control of IO ports through macros like BIT_SET, BIT_CLEAR, BIT_IS_SET and BIT_COMP.  Port register control is achieved through PORTx macros which reduce bit level TRISx calls this saving critical program memory space.

Ring Master 1000 PLC Proximity Detection


 


The Ring Master 1000 LD (100mm x 50mm Single Board Computer) uses PWM 
and Frequency shift to detect metallic objects. Inductive Loop 
Detection unit defies 2/3 shortest leg rule when detecting metallic 
mass which includes aluminum passing through detection loop perimeter. 
This detector employs a derivative of both Fixed Drive and Ringing Coil 
theory thus improving the detection range of slow moving and stationary 
vehicles. RS232 PC Serial Port allows the installer to adjust device 
sensitivity and frequency settings as well as view diagnostics information 
from a computer terminal.
